Teknicraft has completed the design of an 11m long Rescue catamaran for operation in the Manukau Harbour around the Auckland International Airport.

The primary function of the vessel will be to conduct maritime rescue missions in case of an aircraft accident. The vessel is equipped with a rescue zone with allows easy retrieval of victims from the water. Furthermore, the vessel will carry liferafts to be deployed at the emergency site as well as other safety equipment. The cabin is fitted with an emergency bunk for an injured person.

The vessel will serve as a 24 hr operational control platform from which other rescue craft can be based. The hull is therefore designed to be able to remain on station with varying tide, allowing it to sit in the mud, typical of the local environment.

The bow is fitted with a fire monitor with built in foam tank. The aft deck has a helicopter winch area for transferring of injured persons.
